Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya has hit back at Kikuyu MP and National Assembly Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wah’s claims that former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua is behind a series of abductions in the country.
Ichung’wah, speaking during the funeral of National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetangula’s mother in Kabuchai, suggested that Gachagua was involved in orchestrating these abductions, which have left several families in search of their missing loved ones.
Ichung’wah’s comments have stirred tensions, especially as the country grapples with an ongoing crisis over the alleged forced disappearances of individuals.
Natembeya, who was present at the funeral, took to X to vehemently deny these accusations.
In a direct response, he questioned Ichung’wah’s bitterness and clarified his stance on the matter.
“I don’t know why Kimani Ichung’wah is bitter when we are telling President Ruto the truth at the burial ceremony,” Natembeya tweeted.
He emphasized that his administration would not shy away from confronting the issues facing the country, including the troubling cases of abductions.
The Governor further refuted Ichung’wah’s allegation that Gachagua had any involvement in such activities, calling it unfounded.
“We won’t hide anything anymore,” Natembeya added, urging that the authorities take immediate action to release the abducted individuals.
The remarks from both political figures have sparked a heated debate about the growing concerns over human rights abuses in Kenya, particularly the issue of enforced disappearances.
As families continue to search for answers, many are looking to the government for a resolution to the ongoing crisis.
