Nyandarua County Senator Honourable John Methu has strongly criticized President William Samoei Ruto, accusing him of betraying the Mt Kenya region.

The senator spoke with frustration, saying that the region gave the president over five million votes in the 2022 general elections, but now the people feel abandoned. According to Methu, the president has turned his back on the very people who helped him rise to power, choosing instead to work with leaders from areas that did not support him at the ballot.

Senator Methu pointed out that President Ruto is now working more closely with former Prime Minister Raila Odinga and leaders from the Nyanza region. He reminded the public that Nyanza only gave Ruto around one million votes, far less than what came from Mt Kenya. To the senator, this shows a shift in loyalty and priorities, and it sends the wrong message to the millions who supported Ruto with high hopes and expectations.

Methu said this growing relationship with the Nyanza region feels like a clear sign that the president is no longer loyal to those who stood by him when it mattered most.

He expressed concern that the president’s new alliances appear to be a way of rewarding regions that opposed him, while punishing those that supported him. Senator Methu believes that this direction is dangerous and could leave the Mt Kenya region feeling neglected and used.

Instead of pushing for development and benefits in the areas that voted for him, President Ruto is now seen making promises to regions that did not believe in his leadership during the campaigns.

The senator warned that such political moves are not just unfair but could also backfire in the future. He said the people of Mt Kenya are starting to feel disappointed, and if nothing changes, the region may begin to withdraw its political support. Methu emphasized that loyalty in politics should be recognized and rewarded, not ignored. He called on the president to rethink his recent actions and remember the regions that gave him strong backing.

Senator Methu’s remarks reflect growing frustration within the Mt Kenya region as they watch Ruto’s administration shift focus. He made it clear that ignoring the Mt Kenya voting bloc could have serious political consequences in the next elections.

According to him, political trust is built on mutual respect and recognition, and if the president continues down this path, he risks losing the very foundation that helped him win.
