City lawyer Ahmednasir Abdullahi, an ally of President William Ruto, has this afternoon asked hard questions regarding the fate of fake fertilizer. He alleged that he had intelligence reports indicating that the product was manufactured in Tanzania and then transported to Kenya.

Through his X handle, the lawyer demanded to know whether the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) received tax from the product if CS Linturi and NCPB could disclose to Kenyans the quarry in Tanzania where the goat manure was procured, and finally, whether MEMS paid tax to the Kenya Revenue Authority.

“I now have actionable intelligence that the fake fertilizer was manufactured/procured from Tanzania. I challenge Waziri Linturi, the National Cereals and Produce Board, and MEMS to tell Kenyans the quarry in Tanzania where the goat manure, sand, and stones were mixed and in what proportions. Did KRA receive taxes from MEMS, or did the fake manure pass through panya routes?” the lawyer wrote on X.

For the record, MEMS company is owned by Collings Ng’etich, who is the elder brother of Aldai Member of Parliament Honorable Maryanne Keitany. Maryanne Keitany is the ex-wife of CS Linturi.

At the same, The National Cereals and Produce Board has started compensating farmers who bought substandard fertilisers under the subsidy programme.

This follows a directive by President William Ruto that all farmers who bought Kel fertilisers be compensated.

On April 8, the President said the company involved in the fake fertiliser should compensate farmers. He assured farmers the government has enough fertiliser for them.

“Every farmer will get the right fertiliser. The company that was involved, should compensate farmers who bought fake fertiliser and they should be given new fertilisers free of charge,” Ruto said.

Agriculture CS Mithika Linturi told the Senate Committee on Agriculture probing the fake fertiliser that farmers will be compensated with top dressing fertiliser at an additional fee.
