Nyeri Governor Mutahi Kahiga has issued a stern warning to President William Ruto, urging him to maintain the eight Cabinet Secretary (CS) positions previously held by individuals from the Mt Kenya region.
Speaking during an interview with Kameme FM, Kahiga emphasized the importance of recognizing Mt Kenya’s support in Ruto’s presidential success.
“I want to remind the president that Mt Kenya gave him at least 3.5 million votes in the last elections. We had eight seats with Mt Kenya representatives, from the likes of Justin Muturi, Alice Wahome, Moses Kuria, and the rest. Ruto needs to understand that all those seats were held by Mt Kenya representatives through an agreement with his Deputy, Rigathi Gachagua,” Kahiga stated.
Kahiga underscored the need for Ruto to appoint dedicated individuals who are committed to delivering results, rather than those who merely seek personal gain. He warned that appointing people from other regions could undermine Ruto’s administration.
“If he is listening to me, I want to remind Ruto that those seats belonged to us. If he cares about the people of Mt Kenya, he should listen. Picking anyone from another region will be the start of his downfall,” Kahiga added.
Governor Kahiga emphasized that the representation from Mt Kenya was earned through hard work and should not be taken for granted.
He urged Ruto to ensure fair representation in the upcoming Cabinet appointments, proposing that the eight vacant seats previously held by Mt Kenya ministers be allocated to individuals from the same region. For the remaining 14 positions, Kahiga suggested a reconsideration of candidates from diverse communities.
“If he decides to touch any of the eight seats, we will reconsider a few things. For every missing seat, he should consider that as lost votes whenever he needs our support. Ruto should remember that he did not give us these seats; we fought for them,” Kahiga concluded.
