Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has accused President William Ruto of failing to honor a power-sharing deal with Western Kenya leaders, saying the region has been shortchanged despite its support in the 2022 elections.
In a post shared on his Facebook handle on February 4, Gachagua uploaded documents that he claimed detailed an agreement between Kenya Kwanza leaders, promising the Western region 30% of government positions and development projects.
He also spoke about the issue during a morning discussion with Mulembe FM, Sulwe FM, and Vuuka FM, where he insisted that the agreement had not been honored.
“This morning, I had a discussion with Mulembe FM, Sulwe FM & Vuuka FM. We discussed various issues, including the expectations of the Western region from the shareholding agreement signed by William Ruto, Moses Wetang’ula, and Musalia Mudavadi,” Gachagua wrote.
He urged the Western region to agitate for what is rightfully theirs, warning that Ruto had used them for votes but failed to keep his promises.
The former DP further accused Ruto of using political tricks and deceit to secure support and later abandoning his allies. He called on Western leaders to take action and demand their rightful share in government.
In what appears to be a major political shift, Gachagua also hinted at forming a new political movement to challenge Ruto in 2027. He vowed to build a coalition that would correct the injustices faced by various regions that supported Kenya Kwanza.
“Kenya needs leaders who keep their word. If Ruto thinks he can continue playing these tricks, we will teach him a lesson in 2027,” he warned.
His remarks have sparked fresh political debate, with many now questioning Ruto’s commitment to fulfilling pre-election agreements.
As 2027 draws closer, political tensions are expected to rise, with Gachagua’s latest statements signaling an imminent realignment in the country’s leadership.
