Citizen TV Draws Parallels Between Ruto’s Defiance of Uhuru and Gachagua’s Premature 2027 Campaign

President Ruto now faces a situation similar to Uhuru Kenyatta's in 2018-2022, as his Deputy, Rigathi Gachagua, begins early 2027 campaigns. The scenario mirrors Ruto's own past defiance, with many seeing it as Ruto receiving a dose of his own medicine.

Citizen TV, on Sunday, September 15, during its 9 pm news bulletin, reported that it is now evident that President William Ruto is receiving a dose of his own medicine.

This comes after recent incidents where his Deputy, Rigathi Gachagua, was seen campaigning for the 2027 general election, standing on top of cars and addressing the public.

In an exclusive two-minute video clip, the TV station highlighted several instances from the 2018 to 2022 political era, when then-Deputy President William Ruto openly defied his boss, President Uhuru Kenyatta, by initiating his 2022 presidential campaign.

For example, Citizen TV showed a notable instance where Ruto’s seat was empty during an important event attended by Uhuru Kenyatta and other senior government officials. This was paralleled with today’s incident in Nyeri, where Gachagua’s actions echoed those of Ruto years earlier.

Additionally, the bulletin replayed Uhuru Kenyatta’s past speech, in which he warned his Deputy to refrain from early 2022 campaign activities. This reflected what President Ruto himself said today when he cautioned leaders against engaging in premature campaigns.

Political analysts such as Peter Kagwanja and Macharia Munene, who spoke to Citizen TV, believe that President Ruto now faces a challenging situation. Some pundits have even likened Gachagua to a snake that Ruto himself nurtured and is now finding difficult to control.

These developments have sparked a national conversation about the relationship between the President and his Deputy, with many wondering if the past dynamics between Ruto and Kenyatta are now being mirrored in Ruto’s dealings with Gachagua.
