Family, friends, and former colleagues have confirmed that the late Wells Fargo HR Manager, Willis Ayieko, was investigating a Ksh 94 million heist before his tragic murder last week.
Ayieko was heavily involved in the internal investigation after the theft, which took place in November 2023 during the transit of funds from Quick Mart Supermarket to a bank in Nairobi.
His commitment to uncovering those responsible led Wells Fargo management to hold crisis meetings that identified several staff members as suspects.
On October 23, Ayieko’s mutilated body was discovered in a shallow stream in Siaya, just three days after he was reported missing.
The suspicious circumstances surrounding his death have fueled speculation that it could be tied to the high-stakes investigation he was leading.
The ongoing probe into the heist resulted in police arrests, with forensic analysis of communication data pinpointing two main suspects: Anthony Nduiki and Daniel Mutheka.
While Ayieko’s murder has raised concerns about possible retaliation for his role in the investigation, authorities have yet to establish a direct connection between his death and the heist.
No arrests have been made so far in relation to Ayieko’s murder. Investigators are under mounting pressure to determine whether the tragic killing was linked to his involvement in the probe or driven by other motives.
The Ksh 94 million theft investigation remains active as police seek answers about Ayieko’s untimely death and whether it was part of an attempt to conceal the truth behind the heist.
