Margaret Wanjala Mwachanya, the former Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) commissioner, has become the center of a humiliating scandal after falling victim to a witchdoctor’s scam in her desperate attempt to secure a top government job.

According to blogger Cyprian Nyakundi, Mwachanya, who sought to manipulate President William Ruto’s judgment through witchcraft to land the chairmanship of the National Police Service Commission (NPSC), has not only been left financially ruined but has also exposed a grave lack of judgment and integrity.

The former IEBC commissioner’s failed scheme saw her conned out of Kshs. 6.1 million by a fraudster posing as a witchdoctor.

Mwachanya, apparently so desperate for power, turned to dark rituals and deception, believing that mystical forces could help her influence the president.

She paid hefty sums of money for various staged “rituals” and “mystical services” that promised to guarantee her a position in government, only to find herself left with nothing but an empty bank account and a reputation in tatters.

What is most alarming about Mwachanya’s actions is not only her willingness to spend millions of shillings on black magic but also the implications of this desperation for public office.

If she could resort to such extreme measures to secure a role, one must question what lengths she would go to in order to maintain power or recover any perceived losses once in office.

Given her reckless spending to chase after a false promise, could Mwachanya be trusted to manage public funds responsibly? How would she handle taxpayers’ money if entrusted with a position of authority, knowing how easily she was swayed by fraudulent schemes?

Her conduct raises troubling questions about the kind of leadership she would bring to a body like the NPSC, which oversees one of the most critical arms of the Kenyan government the police service.

If Mwachanya is willing to squander millions on witchcraft to land a position, what’s stopping her from mismanaging public resources to recover lost funds, or worse, abusing her authority for personal gain?

It is deeply concerning that someone with such a flawed sense of judgment could even be considered for public office, let alone a prestigious position overseeing the police.

Kenyans deserve leaders with integrity, responsibility, and a commitment to merit, not individuals who turn to superstition and deception when their ambitions fall short.

Mwachanya’s actions not only expose her as unfit for leadership but also serve as a stark reminder that desperate people in pursuit of power can be easily misled, and, unfortunately, can mislead others.
