The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has found itself in the crosshairs of Kenyans on X after the re-arrest of a notorious robbery suspect, Ali Issack Muhumed, aka “Ali Geographia.”

Muhumed was initially apprehended in April 2023 for masterminding a violent robbery in Dadaab, Garissa County, alongside his accomplice, Hassan Barre Hussein.

During the first arrest, law enforcement officers recovered an AK-47 assault rifle and rounds of ammunition. The DCI proudly announced their capture back then, but it seems the story didn’t end there.

Fast forward to September 2024, and Muhumed has been arrested again, this time in Burburis, Garissa Sub-County.

He was nabbed alongside two other suspects—Muhumed Bare Hussein and an elderly woman who had reportedly given them refuge.

During the recent operation, another AK-47 rifle, 12 mobile phones, knives, and rounds of ammunition were seized by the authorities. The trio is currently being processed for arraignment.

This repeat arrest has sparked outrage on social media, with Kenyans on X openly questioning how a suspect previously caught with such serious charges could be back on the streets.

Many users are demanding answers from the DCI about the circumstances that led to Muhumed’s release after the 2023 arrest.

“DCI, how does a criminal like Ali Geographia get arrested twice for the same crime? What happened in between?” one X user tweeted, echoing the frustrations of many. Another added, “You arrested him last year for robbery, and now he’s out doing the same thing. Who ate the release money?”

Kenyans are now calling for transparency and accountability, raising concerns about the possibility of corruption or systemic failures within the justice system.

Many are urging the DCI to ensure this time that justice is fully served and the suspect is not allowed to slip through the cracks again.
