It began with 71 boys in a settler’s house below Rurii shopping centre 61 years ago. On Monday the 25th of May 2026, that same soil will receive three of Kenya’s distinguished public servants. The host will be members of the Board of Management led by Chairman Dr Kanyingi Waweru and the School Principal, Mr G.S. Muchiri.

Nyandarua High School, the country’s sole mixed national secondary school, will host its Education Day 2026 with an impressive guest list to celebrate the institution that outperformed all other secondary schools in Nyandarua County in the 2025 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education.

The Chief Guest is the Cabinet Secretary for Education, Hon. Julius Migos Ogamba. In attendance will be the Cabinet Secretary for Tourism and Wildlife, Hon. Rebecca Miano, and the Nyandarua County Governor, H.E. Hon. Kiarie Badilisha.

The school, which now houses 683 boys and 365 girls, has become a beacon of academic excellence in Nyandarua County and beyond.

CS Ogamba’s portfolio oversees the set up of Kenya’s education system covering the Competency-Based Curriculum to teacher deployment and examination integrity. For a school that has consistently produced top-tier results his presence is both an honour and a mirror. He comes to witness what public investment, community resolve, and student grit can build.

The Chief Guest will find a school whose alumni read like a roll call of distinguished Kenyan achievement. There is Prof. Paul Wainaina, former Vice-Chancellor of Kenyatta University. There is Joseph Kaguthi, the celebrated Provincial Commissioner and once school captain. Architect Aidah Munano rose to Permanent Secretary. CDM Kiratu, the benga virtuoso whose guitar strings have strummed Kikuyu melodies for decades. And Justice Aggrey Muchelule, whose judgments have shaped Kenyan jurisprudence. They all sat where these students sit. There is also an entrepreneur of note who is also the Chairman of Nyandarua High School alumni, Stanley Kinyanjui among others. They all walked these same corridors during their time.

CS Miano and Governor Badilisha will add their voices to the occasion. For the students, seeing a graceful lady at the helm of Tourism and Wildlife, and their own county’s governor, is no small lesson in leadership’s many faces.

Tomorrow will be a day of reckoning with possibility. Sixty one years ago, a settler never imagined his house would birth a national school. Today, 1048 young men and women view Nyandarua High School as their pride.

Nyandarua High School invites all its stakeholders to this big day. Welcome!
