“Ruto wants president Uhuru investigated, prosecuted and jailed after he leaves office. Good. But Bwana DP when you shall also be taken through the same, kindly don’t say the fight on corruption is being weaponised and institutions compromised” said Junet Mohamed.

Speaking during an exclusive interview on Wednesday, deputy president William Ruto told South African Broadcasting Co-operation (SABC) that immunity chapters in the constitution protecting the president against facing the prosecution ought to be scrapped off.

This suggestively indicated the unmentioned plan by Ruto to investigate, prosecute and jail president Uhuru Kenyatta in the likely event that Kenya Kwanza takes power in August.

He claimed that Article 143 of the reviewed Constitution 2010, which contains the president’s office immunity was not helping in the fight against corruption.

“We must build investigative agencies’ capacities to uncover corruption, theft of public property, state capture and conflict of interest from any state official. There are countries that take their presidents to court because of corruption. We must take our country to that place,” he said.

Ruto also said that unlike the Azimio – One Kenya faction, which is allegedly being remotely controlled by Uhuru on who to prosecute over graft cases, he hinted that the fight against corruption will be applicable to all people whether the leader is associated to United Democratic Alliance (UDA) or not.
