Renowned city tycoon Agnes Kagure has thrown her weight behind Raila Odinga’s bid for the African Union Commission (AUC) chairmanship.
Kagure expressed her support for the former Prime Minister on her X (formerly Twitter) account, just hours after Odinga officially launched his AUC bid at State House, Nairobi.
The high-profile event, which drew the attention of global leaders, saw the attendance of key figures such as Ugandan President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, among others. The launch marks the beginning of Odinga’s quest to lead the AUC, a position that could significantly shape the future of the African continent.
Kagure, known for her active participation in both business and social causes, took to her social media platform to convey her backing.
In her post, she said, “I extend my heartfelt support and prayers to Raila Odinga as he officially begins the race for the African Union Commission chairmanship. Your democratic ideals and leadership set you ahead of the rest, and I’m hopeful that with you at the helm, Africa will see better times. Best wishes Baba!”
Her endorsement adds to the growing momentum behind Odinga’s campaign, as he seeks to bring his vision for a united and prosperous Africa to the forefront of the continental stage.
With influential supporters like Kagure rallying behind him, Odinga’s bid is expected to garner significant attention in the coming months.
That notwithstanding, Orange Democratic Movement Party leader Hon Raila Odinga is expected to battle of out with another candidate from Djibouti who met with Ugandan President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni a few days ago where he was seeking endorsement.
According to the confirmed reports, Raila Odinga needs atleast 35 countries out of 54 African states and currently he has receive backing from 15 countries only.
