Businesswoman Agnes Kagure has urged the government to introduce urgent reforms in boarding school policies following the recent surge in school fires across the country. These fires have resulted in deaths, serious injuries, and emotional trauma for students, which Kagure says is unacceptable.
Speaking about the tragic incidents, Kagure said, “The unfortunate spate of school fires around the country is one we cannot sit back and watch unfold. The loss of lives, life-long injuries and trauma on survivors is too sad to comprehend.”

Kagure emphasised the need for the government to work closely with relevant stakeholders to review boarding school policies and ensure they cater to the needs of students in the modern era.
She pointed out that many of the existing policies are outdated and need to be rethought to focus on students’ safety and well-being.
“The government should involve stakeholders and move with speed to review the boarding school policies to ensure they are student-friendly,” she said.
She also called for improvements in school safety measures, particularly around emergency procedures, and stressed the importance of mental health support for students.
“We must revamp the safety guidelines and emergency education in our schools, and have in place robust counselling services that are a go-to for students, not seen as a punishment,” Kagure added.
She concluded by encouraging all concerned parties to act swiftly, ensuring that schools provide a safe environment where children can learn and grow without fear.
“Let’s do all we can to ensure our schools are our children’s second homes where they discover their greatness, and not danger zones,” she remarked.
School fires aside, Hon. Agnes Kagure has continued to make political moves within Naiorobi county and political pundits are now getting convinced that come 2027 some political failures could end up being sent to political oblivion.
With her-founded Agnes Kagure Foundation, the City Tycoon has managed to offer scholarships to all bright and needy students within Nairobi alongside other empowerment programs.
