The nine detained officers of the disbanded Special Services Unit have claimed they are under pressure to Incriminate former Director of Criminal Investigations George Kinoti in exchange for their freedom.
The nine who are accused of Killing two Indians and their taxi driver, through their counsel Danstan Omari, have since told Chief Magistrate Diana Mochache that their arrest is politically instigated to settle scores.
“My clients are before this court just because the state wants to use them to settle political scores. It is their commander who is being targeted and they are under pressure to incriminate him and turn him into a state witness,” Mr Omari told the court.
The officers who were serving in the Special Services Unit (SSU) have urged the chief judge Diana Mochache to respond to their request to question the officer investigating them for the murder of two citizens from India – Mohammed Said Sami and Zulfiqar Ahmed as well as the taxi driver Nicodemus Muange – so that the truth can be established. .
The officials say that they have been arrested due to the orders of the government officials with the aim of smearing them and tarnishing their names even though they served the Kenyan nation faithfully.
“SSP Wilhem Kibet’s evidence is empty allegations that have no legal basis, which he presented to the court under coercion by high-ranking officials in the government,” says DCI officer Mr. Joseph Mwenda Mbaya.
Mr Mbaya and eight other officers have criticized the request of SSP Kibet to be detained for 30 days to interrogate and investigate them saying “the request has no direction and its main goal is to torture them and ensure that they are detained illegally while Mr Kibet and his colleagues are looking for evidence.”
Mr Mbaya has also disclosed that senior officers in the Police Department have been swearing affidavits in support of ending the case against Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua and others.
