In a recent interview on Political Ringside, commentator Denzel Bruce spoke with host Tonny Nyakoko about why this Principal Secretary in the Ministry of Interior and National Administration stands out.

Omollo, from Homa Bay County, is seen as a calm and effective leader who is helping to change how people in the region view the national government.

Dr. Raymond Vicky Ojwang’ Omollo was born on 27 December 1979 in Homa Bay. He attended Rang’i Primary School and Mbita High School before studying at the University of Nairobi, where he earned a Bachelor’s degree in Statistics.

He later obtained a Master’s in Biometry from the same university and a PhD in Applied Statistics from Maseno University. Before joining government, he worked as a researcher and statistician, including over a decade at the Drugs for Neglected Diseases Initiative (DNDi) Africa, where he managed data and contributed to health research.

He also served as Managing Director of the Lake Basin Development Authority from 2019 to 2022, focusing on socio-economic projects across several counties.

In late 2022, President William Ruto appointed him as Principal Secretary for Internal Security and National Administration, making him one of the younger people in such a role.

Bruce described Omollo as sober, composed, and hardworking. He noted that Omollo does not seek attention or engage in loud political displays. Instead, he focuses on his duties and lets his work speak for itself.

This approach has earned him respect even in a region that has traditionally supported opposition politics.

Bruce pointed out that Omollo showed loyalty to Ruto at a time when most of Nyanza was against him. When Ruto became president, he rewarded that support with the appointment. Since then, Omollo has been involved in government efforts to bring development and services to the area.

The interview discussed how government presence is slowly changing views on the ground. People are paying more attention to practical issues like security, jobs, and projects rather than just traditional political loyalty.

Omollo is often described as humble and impactful. Unlike some past figures who used strong rhetoric, he works quietly and maintains good relations. Bruce said this humility combined with results makes him different.

His presence is felt through coordination of security matters and support for development initiatives. Some see him as a potential bridge between the national government and the Luo community, especially looking ahead to future elections.

The discussion also touched on whether voters in Nyanza are becoming more focused on development and service delivery. Bruce believes many people now recognize that government work can continue even when their preferred leaders are not in power.

Omollo’s style is helping to build trust and show that cooperation can bring benefits to the region.

The conversation highlighted Omollo as a steady figure in a dynamic political environment. His background in data and research seems to shape his methodical approach to public service. While it is still early to predict long-term outcomes, his growing profile shows how individual leaders can influence political conversations in their home regions.
