The body of Elvis Munene, a City Hall intern and KCA University student, has been discovered at Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH), ending a harrowing 23-day search by his distraught family.

Munene disappeared on January 29, 2025, after leaving home for his internship at the City Hall Annex IT department.

Despite his critical role in the City Hall tech team, there has been a glaring silence from City Hall leadership, including Governor Johnson Sakaja, since his disappearance.

No official statement or efforts to aid in the search were made public.

Citizen TV first highlighted the agony of Munene’s family as they desperately searched for their son, pleading with authorities to assist.

However, neither City Hall officials nor Sakaja himself came forward to provide any leads or assurances.

New details reveal that Munene’s last known interaction was with his close friend, Keith Chacha, who called him as he left City Hall Annex.

The two reportedly went downtown to purchase a phone cover, where they were confronted by police officers.

Chacha was handcuffed, but Munene managed to escape, only to be captured by a mob at the junction of Kirinyaga Road and Charles Rubia Road between 5:00 PM and 7:30 PM.

Eyewitnesses claim that police officers later intervened, rescuing Munene from the mob and calling an ambulance.

“Ilikuwa tu masaa ya 6 jioni hapo, walikuwa vijana wanne wakiteremka pale na wote walikuwa marafiki. Wakati wakizozana nikaenda zangu, kurudi nilipata amepigwa,” said Charles Kamande, a boda boda rider.

Another witness, Edward Mwangi, added: “Huyo jamaa walisnatch simu hapa chini, akakuja akitaka kutoroka hivi juu watu wakamshika wakamchapa. Polisi wakakuja, wakakataza watu kumchapa, ambulance ikakuja, ikamchukua wakaenda. Hatujui waliendaje.”

Munene was taken to KNH for treatment, but despite medical efforts, he succumbed to his injuries two days later. His body was later transferred to the KNH mortuary, where his family discovered him on February 20.

The shocking revelation that Munene had been in the hospital all along, while his family searched desperately, raises serious questions about the handling of the case.

How did City Hall fail to track a young man who was essential to its IT operations? Why did the leadership, including Sakaja, remain silent throughout? Could an official intervention have helped locate him sooner?

In the wake of these revelations, several individuals, including Chacha, have been arrested as investigations intensify. Detectives are currently reviewing CCTV footage from City Hall to piece together Munene’s last movements.

Authorities are awaiting a formal medical report to determine the exact cause of death, after which a postmortem will be conducted.

As investigations continue, pressure is mounting on City Hall leadership to explain their inaction. For a young man so crucial to City Hall’s tech activities, the silence from Sakaja’s office remains deafening.
