A video clip making rounds on social media has sparked speculation after it reportedly shows Boda Boda riders in Runyenjes, Embu, receiving money moments before Deputy President Hon. Kithure Kindiki’s arrival. The second-in-command is in the region to attend a special event for all Boda Boda riders.
Although this writer could not independently verify the claims, unconfirmed reports suggest that each rider received Ksh 1,000.

The video has fueled debate, with many Kenyans questioning whether the cash handout was used as a mobilization strategy to boost attendance at Kindiki’s event.
This speculation comes amid reports that President William Ruto has tasked Kindiki with regaining the support of the Mt. Kenya region, which appears to be shifting towards former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.
Gachagua, who was impeached in October last year, has continued to enjoy strong backing in some parts of the region, making Kindiki’s role even more critical in Ruto’s 2027 re-election strategy.

Political analysts argue that if the money claims are true, it could indicate a growing challenge for the government in securing grassroots support in Mt. Kenya.
“This could be a sign that Kindiki’s influence is yet to fully take root, and the administration is using incentives to fill rally grounds,” one X user suggested.
However, supporters of the government dismiss the allegations, saying the Boda Boda riders could have been receiving routine allowances unrelated to politics. Others argue that opposition elements are pushing a narrative to discredit Kindiki’s efforts.
As debates rage on, the video has only added fuel to the already heated political climate in the region, with many now waiting to see if Kindiki can successfully bring back Mt. Kenya to Ruto’s camp.
